Push-ups push the breasts upwards, boosting the cleavage. However, they improve only the view from the front, and that only with a low cut top. They push the breasts higher at the cost of flattening them. So from the side view, soft bras give a much better shape.
Since in winter we almost never wear low necked styles, it's better to go for soft bras, or at least padded but without boost pads/inserts. Your breasts will thank you.
