Deep Cleansing with Oil + Recipe

Oil cleansing is the first step of the Double Cleansing Method, which recognises that the two kinds of dirt & impurities of the skin must be treated in two ways.

Oil dissolves oil. Massaging a cleansing oil into the skin dislodges oil-based impurities from the skin pores, and leaves the skin clear and soft. Oil Cleansing works for all skin types: it helps with removing blackheads and whiteheads, and it is also perfect for cleaning dry skin. All you need to do is select the oil you use according to your skin type.

"Do not be afraid of applying oil to your face. Oil, alone, will not bring you blemishes. Pimples, cysts, zits, blackheads, whiteheads...these are a result of several different factors including hormones, bacteria, dead skin cells and the buildup of these factors. Your skin naturally produces oil because it needs it. It is not a malicious force to be reckoned with." *more info*

YOUR PERSONAL CLEANSING OIL BLEND

There are several kinds of oil blends that you can use. Some people use a single oil instead of a blend. Others mix up their own unique blends. Experiment and see what works for you.

The Castor oil blend:

Castor oil is the most commonly used oil for cleansing, since it has strong cleansing properties.
This should be blended with another oil for moisturising properties. Extra virgin olive oil or sunflower oils are recommended, but you can use almost any oil depending upon your skin type.

The Oil Cleansing Method site suggests the following blends for the different skin types:

  • Oily Skin: 30% Castor Oil to 70% Sunflower Seed Oil*.
  • Balanced Skin: 20% Castor Oil to 80% Sunflower Seed Oil*.
  • Dry Skin: 10% Castor Oil to 90% Sunflower Seed Oil*.
* or other moisturising oil !
To this you can add a few drops of essential oil, selected according to your skin type.

Another recipe:

9 parts oil
+ 1 part emulgator.

HOW-TO:

  • Take a generous coin-sized dollop of oil into your palms.
  • Rub palms together, to warm up the oil.
  • Smooth over face, and massage into skin. Use slow, firm strokes and take time with problem areas.
  • Take a soft washcloth or towel, and wet it with warm water.
  • Steam your face by holding the washcloth over it until it cools.
  • Wipe your skin, then rinse the washcloth with warm water. Repeat 2-3 times.
  • If you want, you can use a gentle cleanser to remove any oil residue.
  • If your skin feels tight, take a small amount of your oil blend and massage it into your skin.

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • The key is to take the time to massage the face well. 1-2 minutes is the minimum ! If you go shorter than that, you will not be able to remove any impurities.
  • Use generous amounts of oil.
  • Remember to buy only cold-pressed, natural oils !
  • For sensitive skin, the washcloth or towel must be extremely soft !
  • For skin with spider veins: skip the steaming. Wash off the oil with a gentle SLS-free face-wash, using lukewarm water.
