Got dandruff ? First, make sure it really is dandruff.
Then, fix your diet. Dandruff is usually caused by deficiencies, or by a generally crappy diet. Read *here* about how to do that. If you skip that step, don't bother reading the rest of this post. No amount of external treatments are going to help if you continue to eat crap.
DIY Dandruff treatments:
The Vinegar treatment:
Treating the scalp with something acidic can help with dandruff, although this usually gives better results with mild cases of dandruff.
How to: Use Apple Cider Vinegar or even white distilled vinegar. Massage it into scalp, and wash out after half an hour with your usual mild shampoo.
For better results, add a bit of tea tree oil and rosemary essential oil to the vinegar.
Ginger Treatment:
A piece of ginger root, 1 ts sesame oil, 1 ts lemon juice
Squeeze ginger root through press to obtain one tablespoon of juice. Mix all ingredients. Apply to scalp and let dry before shampooing. Repeat three times a week.
Rosemary Rinse:
Rosemary helps to relieve oiliness of the scalp, which is dandruff's preferred environment.
How-to:
Simmer rosemary in water, 1:6
Strain the mixture, and use the rosemary water as a last rinse.
Borax treatment for persistent dandruff:
This is good to try if the other methods have not worked. Borax kills the dandruff fungus.
How to:
Use Borax soap to wash your hair.
Or dissolve a pinch of Borax in 6 Tbs of water or strong Rosemary infusion, apply on scalp. Leave overnight and rinse the next day. For severe cases of dandruff, the solution can be strengthened if added to a 1% H2O2 (peroxide) solution.
